Prophecy by Ellen Oh
Series: The Dragon King Chronicles #1
Release Date: 01/02/2013
Publisher: HarperTeen

Amazon / B&N / TBD / Chapters
The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms… is a girl with yellow eyes.
Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope…
Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.
Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

Big thanks to HarperTeen!

So, when I found out I won this, I was basically squealing, screaming, fan girling, etc. Which, happened all again when I got this in the mail :) My first ever ARC thanks to HarperTeen :')

When I first heard about Prophecy, I thought this was going to be something like Graceling (which I didn't like much at all). I mean, the whole book description sounds a lot like Graceling's. What with the slayer, prince, kings and stuff like that. But, what I realized is, THERE IS NO ROMANCE GOING ON WITH THE PRINCE, unlike in Graceling. The prince is only twelve (TWELVE!) for goodness's sake.

Once I got over the whole fact that this is nothing like Graceling (THANK YOU!), I really got to enjoy Prophecy. Kira, the main character, was a very independent girl. She was not, at all, bothered by the fact that everyone hated her. She still protected the people from the demons despite the fact that people called her the nine-tailed fox. She's a very strong, admirable girl that has courage in even the most horrific situations. I liked that about her :)

Now we have the love interest, Jaewon. I had a good feeling about him ever since we met him. In my opinion, there wasn't quite enough romance in this one to satisfy me.. but hopefully, there will be more in the second book. There were some scenes where I feel like, "Goodness. KISS ALREADY.." More romance please, Ms. Oh!

Another thing I feel like there should be more of is the world-building. I don't think there was quite enough of that in the book. I don't really know much about the Seven Kingdoms or the place at all except that there are some demons and very bad people wanting to destroy the whole place. So more world-building would be nice, also.

Overall, Prophecy is a enjoyable read. This is NOT a rip-off of Graceling (those people can be assured of that now.. at least in my opinion). I would say this is better than Graceling. Action-packed, this is a tale of a strong and unique heroine trying to save the world.

  1. Ooooo! I like the sound of this book! I have this around and I have heard some brilliant reviews and now to see you give 4 snowflakes, I think I may need to read this one. I know what you mean when a romance presents itself like that! I'm always on the edge of my seat, going mad when they clearly need to kiss! But its beautiful though!

Thanks for the comment on My Showcase Sunday I will need to read first book, but I couldn't resist! :D Sorry I haven't commented much recently. I'm getting back into a routine now! :D
