{Novella Review} Allies - S. J. Kincaid

Allies by S. J. Kincaid
Series: Insignia #1.5
Genre: YA Sci-fi
Release Date: May 7 / 2013
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
In S. J. Kincaid’s fast-paced and humorous sci-fi Insignia trilogy, the earth is in the middle of World War III when teen gamer Tom Raines is recruited to train with other young cadets as a pivotal member of the elite combat corps, the Intrasolar Forces. At the Pentagonal Spire’s training academy, he makes the best friends of his life—fellow government weapons-in-training Wyatt Enslow, Vik Ashwan, and Yuri Sysevich.
In this 47-page prequel novella to the series, budding genius Wyatt Enslow—intensely loyal and hyperintelligent if occasionally, hilariously, socially awkward—takes center stage as S. J. Kincaid reveals Wyatt’s life before she found her place, and her own inner strength, among her devoted band of friends at the Spire.

Allies is a novella in the Insignia series. Last year, when I read Insignia, I was instantly in love. So when I saw that there's going to be a novella in Wyatt's point of view, I was stoked. This novella was really nice as we get to see how Wyatt adjusted to the Pentagonal Spire. We get to experience her loneliness (poor girl!) and how she was different than most people. We get to see a different side to one of the love interests in the series, Heather Akron. And let me say, I do not like that side of her. What a b*tch. I do have a complaint though. This is too short (even though it is novella). It's a great book to satisfy you for a while before you go back to wait on Vortex :)

P. S. Vortex came out today!

  1. I'm really tempted to read this series now, sounds breakthrough taking and refreshing. I'm amazed that you can actually write a review as I simply suck at writing them for novellas.

    Fantastic mini review, chick! <33

    1. Hmm I don't normally read novellas unless it's for a series I love. Insignia was one of my favorites last year and now the second book is out! YAY! You should try out this series!

  3. I bought Insignia a few months ago and I still haven't read it but it sounds right up my alley! I don't read novellas much though even when part of a series but it's fun if you just want a 20 mins read, sometimes.

    1. YOU NEED TO READ INSIGNIA! I don't know if you would like it but I'm really into sci-fi. Hmm I don't find novellas a need-to-read, it's more for like satisfying your taste when you're waiting on the sequel.
