Dirty Little Secret by Jennifer Echols
Release Date: Jul 16 / 2013
Publisher: MTV Books
From the author of the “real page-turner” (Seventeen) Such a Rush comes an unforgettable new drama that follows friends-turned-lovers as they navigate the passions, heartbreaks, and intrigue of country music fame.
Bailey wasn’t always a wild child and the black sheep of her family. She used to play fiddle and tour the music circuit with her sister, Julie, who sang and played guitar. That ended when country music execs swooped in and signed Julie to a solo deal. Never mind that Julie and Bailey were a duet, or that Bailey was their songwriter. The music scouts wanted only Julie, and their parents were content to sit by and let her fulfill her dreams while Bailey’s were hushed away.Bailey has tried to numb the pain and disappointment over what could have been. And as Julie’s debut album is set to hit the charts, her parents get fed up with Bailey’s antics and ship her off to granddad’s house in Nashville. Playing fiddle in washed-up tribute groups at the mall, Bailey meets Sam, a handsome and oh-so-persuasive guitarist with his own band. He knows Bailey’s fiddle playing is just the thing his band needs to break into the industry. But this life has broken Bailey’s heart once before. She isn’t sure she’s ready to let Sam take her there again…
Thank you to MTV Books for the review copy!
I've never read anything by Jennifer Echols and thought it was a perfect time to pick up one of her books. From the synopsis, I got that I was going to read a contemporary about Nashville musicians.
I found the pace of the book good and a lot of things happened. Going through Bailey and Sam's emotional roller coaster was thrilling and you get to see their wavering relationship. I didn't feel like they were the kind of couple that lasted as I found Sam annoying and manipulative. (Like seriously, fifty two girlfriends, but apparently it was more like twenty six *rolls eyes*)
Bailey wasn't a better character either. She's really stubborn and I didn't like how she didn't stand up for herself when her parents bullied her. I am glad that she's found where she should be and is living her dream. I didn't like the two main characters that much but I think the romance and their relationship was good to read about.
Overall, Dirty Little Secret is a great book if you want a contemporary about music.
Rating:
Sam *shudders* Bailey *head desk* This book just makes me do that. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said there, great review hon! <33
Maaannn I hate how awful Sam is >< I mean, he uses Bailey for his own advantages!! And those bad parents -- HOW CAN THERE BE PARENTS LIKE THAT?! Even if this is fiction doesn't mean it can't be as realistic as possible... And the fact that this is a contemporary *shakes head* I'm still interested in Jennifer Echol's Such a Rush though. It seems to get much more positive reviews than this...
ReplyDeleteI tried reading Such a Rush a long time ago and DNFed it at chapter 1. It was so boring for me! You should still give it a try though.. AND YES.. SAM.. *head desk*
DeleteI've received an ARC of this book a long time ago and I still haven't picked it up. I'm not sure if I even will since the "annoying characters" aren't really appealing. Thanks for the honest review, Ariella! : )
