{Review} The Box by Christina Gaudet

The Box

By Christina Gaudet
Release Date: September 2012
Format: eBook

Some gifts should be left unopened.
When her gran passes away, the only item left to Lou is a small wooden box. Although it’s not the car that her sister, Cindy, receives, Lou knows it could have been worse. She could have gotten Gran’s collection of toenails. When Lou opens the box and a guy the size of a stick of gum falls out; she changes her mind – the nail clippings would have been better.
Not a day goes by that Lou doesn’t wish she could shove that guy back in the box and pretend she’d never laid eyes on him. Because of him, she discovered Gran was a sorceress and Cindy is a witch and all these years they have been keeping Lou’s magic locked away “for her own safety.” Without the magic she’s vulnerable to whoever, or whatever, is after her. With it, she’s a target for a fate worth than death.

The Box was a fairly okay read. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, so I guess that puts me in the so-so zone. The setting was refreshing. It tells you about another world that exists beside ours. That's where the wizards, witches, and sorceress lives.

Now it's time for Species 101. A sorceress can produce magic on her own and use it. A wizard has to drain a sorceress's magic and leave her in a state between life and death (I think). And a witch also has the ability to drain a sorceress but doesn't know how so they work for the wizards hoping to be rewarded with the secret.

Lou is just a normal girl who turned out to be sorceress. Her magic had been locked away since she was little. Her Gran had hoped to protect her from being drained and kept her away from the magical world. I think she was brave and kick some ass when it was needed. I think she did well when she was just transitioning into using her magic.

Cindy (or Sin) is Lou's sister. She is a witch and loves the other world. She likes using magic and is the more cunning and reckless of the sisters.

And Al, the heartthrob, is a wizard. I LIKED HIM. The ending left me shocked. Oh, if you read this, you know what I mean.

Overall, I think it was an okay read.

  1. I'm glad there were some good points, like the setting and love interest (how often is that not a good point? ;)). Sorry this wasn't completely for you, though! Great review, Ariella. :)

  2. I am sorry you didn't like this one very much. It sounds like it would be really interesting. It is always disappointing when a book doesn't quite turn out.

    Nice review! :)
