{Review} The Shadow Society - Marie Rutkoski

The Shadow Society by Marie Rutkoski
Release Date: 10/16/2012
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux
Darcy Jones doesn’t remember anything before the day she was abandoned as a child outside a Chicago firehouse. She has never really belonged anywhere—but she couldn’t have guessed that she comes from an alternate world where the Great Chicago Fire didn’t happen and deadly creatures called Shades terrorize the human population.
Memories begin to haunt Darcy when a new boy arrives at her high school, and he makes her feel both desire and desired in a way she hadn’t thought possible. But Conn’s interest in her is confusing. It doesn’t line up with the way he first looked at her.
As if she were his enemy.
When Conn betrays Darcy, she realizes that she can’t rely on anything—not herself, not the laws of nature, and certainly not him. Darcy decides to infiltrate the Shadow Society and uncover the Shades’ latest terrorist plot. What she finds out will change her world forever . . .
In this smart, compulsively readable novel, master storyteller Marie Rutkoski has crafted an utterly original world, characters you won’t soon forget, and a tale full of intrigue and suspense.

This one took like four chapters before it got into the real action. The idea of Shade and a whole different world is quite interesting. The world splitting after the Great Chicago Fire? Count me in for this great adventure :)

Darcy Jones didn't remember anything before she was abandoned at five. Having amnesia made it all the more peculiar. Hmm.. seems like there are locked memories in Darcy's head that she's hidden. So one day this mysterious boy comes to school then he betrayed her!! OMG.. Yeah

This books is a lot of ups and downs for me (especially for the love interest). Ex: I liked Conn at first then thought he was a dick. Then this other guy, a Shade, comes in then I thought ooh I like him. <-- Ya, that guy turned out to be a controlling jerkface. Then I warmed up to Conn again. My bff must not have liked how I raged to her so much (haha she didn't know what was going on though lol).

This book was really fun and had a lot of adventure. Darcy had to be a double agent and THAT WAS AWESOME.. She really had to find out what Shades were and what she thinks she would do. She also had to figure out her own past. Overall, this is a great adventure with romance :)

  1. I really liked The Shadow Society! I agree with you about Conn, though. I went back and forth between liking him. I loved the plot and pretty much everything else :) Great review!

  2. "So one day this mysterious boy comes to school then he betrayed her!! " Da what just happened? And I seriously want to read this! Sounds so good even with all the ups and downs that you explained. XD

And i love to vent out my hate or OMG's to my sister because she is somehow always around when I'm reading (except at school) and I'm pretty sure she's convinced that I need a straightjacket (don't know the spelling for that word). ;D

  3. Is it weird that I absolutely adore secret society books and the concept of agents and such? Makes me kinda wish I was one myself.

Anyways this book caught my eye on Netgalley but I couldn't request it because I was on a serious no-galleys-ban-period :D I want to read it now though but currently I am on a no-book-buying time lol I cant save up for that Mac if I spend all my money on books right? Great review! :)
